The city of Scranton is seeking a city clerk. Lisa Mobley submitted her resignation recently after she accepted another job. She had been employed for about a year as the Scranton clerk. Prior to that, former clerk Melinda Hinners worked almost two years for the city after she accepted another position to handle the necessary paperwork with part-time help in the office.
The council held a special meeting on Aug. 9 to interview potential candidates. At their meeting on Aug. 10, the council split vote two-to-two on hiring Crystal Rice. Voting in favor were Zach Sukovaty and Jeramie Phillips. Casting nay votes were Jerry Boyd and Cassidy Wilson. Dave Dideriksen was not in attendance so the motion failed.
Mobley will work part-time for the city until her replacement is hired and trained.
Dawn Rudolph reported on the Community Center activity. While July was slower than usual, more rentals are coming in. The fall fundraiser will be held Sept. 18.
Chad Kirk reported both the water and sewer plants are running smoothly. Mowing continues frequently. He stated some storm drains need attention.
The council passed a resolution granting approval for Rudy’s Service and Detail expansion project that qualifies for tax abatement under the City’s urban revitalization plan.
Several items were discussed but no action taken regarding city ordinances addressing fireworks, chickens and ATVs.
The next regular meeting of the council is Tuesday, Sept. 14.
